THE SPACE COWBOYS - HIGH ENERGY RACE
KKKK
HIGH-OCTANE PUNK ROCK`N`ROLL. GUESS WHERE FROM........
You may be labouring under the misapprehension that a whole slew of dirty, snotty, punky types have formed in the wake of The Hives success. But, as any aficionado of the lower-slung reaches of rock`n`roll could tell you, these bands have always been there - and many come under the auspices of the ever dependable Twenty Stone Blatt label.
The Space Cowboys again come from Sweden, a place where you`re seemingly issued with Stooges and Dead Boys records on reaching puberty - although in this case Motorhead and classic Kiss may be more accurate combination. They naturally possess the obligatory raw sound and aggression but can also back it up with the cocksure swagger and top notch tunes that could see them yet emerge as genuine contenders.

"HIGH ENERGY RACE"
(TWENTY STONE BLATT)
Swedish guitar/garage punk bands seem to be flavour of the month . But while bands like The Hives are press darlings, ones not getting plugged by Alan McGee get overlooked. Which is a shame, coz this is a damn fine kick-ass debut from a band that would have gone down a storm in The Cas Rock, The Tap, or The Full Moon Club. Maybe Thee Crypt will put them on if they come over, small sweaty, heaving clubs would be the place to see The Space Cowboys.
There's more than traces of The Stooges, Ramones and MC5 here; this lot grew up on an aural diet of them, New York Dolls and Kiss, and blended the best elements to make a rock'n'roll classic.
If you like Z/28, Cherrykicks, Shatterhand and Nerve, this is for you. Buy one,
and if they tour, I'll see ya down the front!

Scando Action Rockers with a ticket to Go Faster Go! They wanna Kick Her Loose, Fire Your Gun, have Another Round in the High Energy Race at Damned City, and prepare for a Demon Strike.
Jeez, you could almost piece this together as some sort of conceptual experience, but in reality it’s a Smash`n`Grab raid from the HELLACOPTERS and PEEPSHOWS display cabinet. Really kickin` stuff done with a raw energy most bands can only dribble into their beer and dream of.

It's really pity I don't live in Scandinavia - it seems they have sooooo many great bands. The Space Cowboys are one more. They are also strongly influenced by 70s high energy r'n'r, but also punk. Their guitars are raw, loud and trashy, their songs fast and groovy. This is r'n'r I like, specially "Another Round" - it's so great.

STRAIGHT TO HELL b/w ANOTHER ROUND
(Pitshark)
Just when you thought the Scandi production line had wound down, out comes
another band with garage credential to nail to the mast. These Swedes do it
pretty well with their murky, dense riffing and crazed vocals that aren?t a
million miles from Zen Guerilla. And on a newish French label which, in a
very short space of time, is proving that Rock Action lives on in that part
of the world. "Another World" features "I?m not gonna take this shit from
you" lyrics and a Tek-like lead break, two surefire winning elements.

SPACE COWBOYS – ”Rock N Roll Injection” 7” – Pure Vinyl
If you’re not already familiar with them, I will boost my own ego and tell
you that I released their first 7" on my Mondo Bizarro label and oooh baby,
here’s their second, this time on Austrian label, Pure Vinyl. Check out the
awesome cover art. A lot better than my lame ass attempt. 4 more songs
on this rocker and I must say that I’m pretty damn chuffed as these guys
never fail to please.
They rock in the same vein as all them Scandinavian bands
that you hear me rave about non-stop. Add this to that list, as I’m sure
you’ll enjoy this stuff. Very Dead Boys’ styled crossed with the Dwarves
and early Hellacopters. These guys will be huge! Selling point: they’re
from Sweden, they rock, I released their first 7", they have no idea what
bad song writing is, they have other releases on Nomad Records and
Safety Pin Records. RAWK!!

Rumor has it that Ted Nugent went on a hunting trip somewhere north
of Stockholm about 20 odd years ago. Some say he was hunting the
elusive polar boar. But if you know "Terrible Ted", "the Motor City
Madman", "Gonzo", "the Nuge", like I do (or at least watched Behind
the Music) you know he found something else! You know what I mean!
Waaaang Daaang Sweet...something or other, I forget. But anywho.
That's the latest explanation for all the rockin' that's happenin' in Sweden.
My birthright, goddammitt!
This is yet another heavy-as-shit, rockin' stuff a-la HELLACOPTERS,
HIVES, etc, etc.
Some great classic pin-up pics on the cover and inserts that got my motor
runninn' even before I put needle to wax. They cover "Sonic Reducer",
which despite being one of the most kick-ass songs ever written,
doesn't win any originality points, but then again, I could play that song
n a ukelele and it would still kick ass!!
It's just that kind of song.....so I give them make-up points for knowing that,
Mmmmmmmmmm...rockalicious (JB) MAXIMUM RnR
